Curriculum

The Emerge School will implement the Creative Curriculum ® for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos, as well as the Creative Curriculum ® for Preschool, which place emphasis on all five areas of development: social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and language. This curriculum was developed to reflect findings from research on how children develop and learn. Using this curriculum, staff at The Emerge School will be able to design every school day to promote growth and achieve developmental goals for each child. The Creative Curriculum ® was designed to be adapted for children’s individual abilities. Therefore, the Creative Curriculum ® is well-suited to be used within the Incidental Teaching method, in which each child will be instructed in a manner best suited for his or her personal learning needs.

Play-Based Learning

Children learn best through play. At The Emerge School, we honor that truth.

All young children learn through their five senses and are most engaged when learning occurs in the context of what interests them most. For children ages two through five, play is the most effective learning environment there is.

Through play in the classroom, children can learn concepts and skills such as pattern-making, predicting, pre-math and pre-reading foundations, creativity, and imagination. Our teachers help them foster friendships, discover their place in the world, and find their voice to share opinions and thoughts. Using play to accomplish these milestones, our goal is for each child to successfully transition to kindergarten alongside their classmates.

Incidental Learning

Our unique model combines this play-based classroom setting with the techniques of Applied Behavior Analysis.

Incidental Learning is an approach of capturing everyday opportunities to help a child communicate verbally, interact socially, and gain knowledge at every level. Ensuring that learning occurs around the things that truly motivate them, it taps into a child’s natural curiosity and personal interests, thereby allowing them a “choice” in their teaching materials. With classrooms filled with a variety of engaging stimuli, our staff captures opportunities to learn throughout the day.

The principles of Applied Behavior Analysis ensure that the curriculum and services are well-matched to each child’s needs across a variety of developmental areas. For children with autism, and all young learners, research supports these approaches as proven ways to set the foundation for great success in their journeys to kindergarten and beyond.
